The Alresford Watercress Festival is a great family event. Not only do local youngsters perform throughout the day, but there are plenty of activities for children of all ages.
The festival now has a dedicated Kids' Zone in East Street, where Juggling Jake returns by popular demand with circus skills workshops and demonstrations throughout the day with a circus skills show at 1230 and 1500hrs.
New to AWF will be Joe Davies, an up and coming young magician. He will knock you dead with his card tricks. Don't be deceived by his youthful looks...he's fun for all ages...with a range of C21st magic that will leave you wanting more.
Also new for 2017 is Ticklish Allsorts and his amazing Punch & Judy show. The "theatre' will be set up in East Street. The shows (about 30 mins each) will be running on the hour at 1100, 1200, 1300 and 1400hrs.
Kidsrome bring the countryside to town with their children's petting farm designed to entertain and educate young and old. The "farm on the mooove" is a rare opportunity for children to get up close to farm animals including a donkey, goats, sheep, rabbits and chickens and has proved a huge success!
Also in East Street, the Alresford & Cheriton Scouts man the Spider Mountain, presenting a challenge to children of all ages.
345 and Busy Bees provide baby changing facilities in Station Road and face painting in East Street and, as in previous years, John Leno has his "magic" roundabout at the top of Broad Street for younger visitors.
Take a short walk along East Street to a field opposite Long Barn to watch the free falconry displays throughout the day by the Falconhigh Display Team. They will have aerial shows at 1130 and 1400hrs.
LOST & FOUND CHILDREN
Finally, just in case your youngsters go walk-about, why not collect a child's wristband from the Festival Information Centre (located outside the Community Centre) and jot your contact details on the reverse. The information could help us reunite you more easily and save you and yours some angst. It also gives your child a chance to see where to go in case he/she gets lost.
