As Alresford was voted Country Life's 'Favourite Market Town' in the south-east, it should come as no surprise to learn that the entire centre of the town becomes a huge market on Festival day.
Food Market
Having joined us for the first time in 2009, we were delighted to announce the return of Hampshire Farmers' Markets for the 2010 festival. Over fifty HFM stallholders have local produce for you to taste, try and buy including free range beef, lamb, pork and chicken, rare breed meat, fresh fish, cheeses, wines, etc.
Local food for local people – that’s what Hampshire Farmers’ Markets are about. All produce being sold by HFM stall holders must have been grown, reared, caught, brewed, pickled, baked, or processed in the county or within ten miles of its borders. This means everyone benefits. The produce is always of the highest quality and freshness with no premium for food miles. So it's a chance to get the very best produce, direct to you, at the very best value.
The food market extends along the entire length of Broad Street and, in addition to the Hampshire Farmers' Market stalls, there are many others showcasing Alresford’s very own restaurants, butchers, tearooms, cafés, wine merchants, milkshake bar plus the local brewery that was immortalised in a recent programme on Channel Four. Alongside them are some of the stall holders who trade each week at Alresford's own Thursday Market plus a few other food and drink producers from further afield.
Festival Market
Located in West Street and Station Road the successful Festival Market features stalls selling arts, crafts, jewellery and clothing, items for the house and garden and much else besides. Many local charities and voluntary organisations will also be on hand to provide an insight into Alresford's rich and eclectic community life.
Alresford shops, pubs, hotels and restaurants
Alresford boasts the traditional independent shops of a small market town, including butchers, fishmongers, bakers and delicatessens. It is also well-known for a range of stylish shops offering designer fashions, art and craft, gifts, antiques and clocks, as well as china and antiquarian books. There are several delightful pubs, cafés, tearooms, hotels and restaurants. Most of these businesses will be open throughout the day so why not take this opportunity to wander around and see what's on offer, even if it's only a recce for a return visit to the town.
